Greenland is one of the best places to experience the Northern Lights. If your idea of a vacation involves experiencing fjords, exceptional wildlife, and colourful tundra, check out our Greenland holiday package itinerary.
Upon arrival at the Nuuk airport, our tour manager will guide you to the hotel and help you complete the check-in formalities. Spend the rest of the day exploring places around the hotel. Spend the night at a luxury hotel in Nuuk.
After breakfast, you'll take a half-day tour of Nuuk. You’ll explore the picturesque neighbourhoods of this historic city, which has been inhabited since 1728. Some places you will see include the Colonial Harbour, the Greenland National Museum, the Nuuk Art Museum, and the Katuaq Cultural Centre. An experienced guide will inform you about the city's fascinating geography and history. You’ll learn how people survive and manage their lives in this numbing temperature. You’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the fjords, visit the main harbour, and visit the University of Greenland's new and old campuses. Return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day lazing around in the hotel.
After breakfast, you will enjoy a boat tour to Kangeq. This was once a traditional fishing village in Southwestern Greenland, abandoned in the 1980s. It takes around an hour to reach Kangeq, with the journey equally memorable as your boat will pass through beautiful mountains and even catch a glimpse of the arctic wildlife, including seals and whales. You’ll pass through abandoned homes that are nothing short of a museum tour. The guide will explain the consequences of politics during the 1950s and 1960s when people were forced to abandon these villages to move to the big cities. You’ll also learn about Aron of Kangeq, an Inuit hunter and painter who chronicled the myths and stories of Greenland. Return to your hotel to spend the night at Nuuk.
Depart from Nuuk airport to reach Ilulissat, the third-biggest town in Greenland with over 5,000 residents. Check into the hotel and spend the rest of the day exploring the different places.
After breakfast, start the day with a 2-hour guided tour of Ilulissat with a local guide to learn more about the town’s history and culture. You’ll visit the old town, the fishing harbour, the old church, and the museum. Ilulissat was founded in 1741 and was named after Jakob Severin, a Danish merchant. Through the tour, you’ll learn about Greenlandic culture while visiting the buildings of the first Danish settlement. You can explore the island on your own in the afternoon before embarking on an evening cruise sailing among the icebergs. Sailing during the evening/night is a once-in-a-lifetime experience where the fading sun shines on the pristine ice sheets, displaying a unique play of colours. The icebergs are beautiful in every kind of weather – during the summer when the sunshine contrasts are very clear or when it is cloudy and the midnight sun casts a unique glow on the glacier. Return to your hotel room at night.
Spend the day at leisure until it is time to depart to the Illulissat Airport to catch your flight home or move on to the next leg of your journey.
